The name of B.u.W. Schmidt has stood for precision products made of high-frequency welded flat sheet films for hospitals and rescue services since 1961.
The initials in front of the name stand for Brigitte and Willi Schmidt, revealing the family origins of today's GmbH, which is now managed by their daughter, Gabriele. The secret of our company's success can be traced to our therapeutic roots.
From 1945 to 1979, the Schmidt family maintained up to three massage and radiotherapy institutes at various locations in Hanover, and therefore they know exactly what is important and right for today's healthcare customers and their patients. Speaking our customers' language and listening closely to them have always been key factors in the ongoing optimization and expansion of our product range.
It all began 50 years ago on Volgersweg in Hanover with the invention of the world's first paraffin compress for heat therapy, consisting of paraffin welded into a film, hygienic and reusable. In 1979, all production operations were moved 12 km to the town of Letter, where we had a new production plant housing the first film welding machine of our own. As our product range grew - for instance, by adding vacuum products for the rescue industry and the rehab sector - we needed more and more space, so we moved our headquarters in 1983 to a newly constructed building in Garbsen, on the B6 highway twenty minutes by car from the center of Hanover.
In Garbsen, B.u.W. Schmidt GmbH now develops, produces and sells plastic film items in five product segments: VACUFORM surgical mattresses and cushions with vacuum technology, ONCOFORM vacuum cushions for radiotherapy, RESCUEFORM vacuum rescue equipment, THERMOFORM compresses for heat and cold therapy (including paraffin compresses) and
4FORM physiotherapy equipment.
Because B. u. W. Schmidt GmbH is a medium-sized, family owned and managed entrepreneurial company, we have on the one hand all the positive attributes of a modern industrial enterprise, and on the other the flexibility of a manufacturing plant, so we can respond to our customers' individual wishes quickly and without any red tape. Our highly modern production facility enables custom products, small series (private labels) and hand-made samples in sizes up to 150 x 250 cm. Our quality management system has been certified in accordance with EN ISO, all items comply with the German Medical Devices Act and are CE approved.
Along with all the innovative technical changes to our production systems in the past 50 years, there is one thing about our company that has remained unchanged: the spirit of Brigitte and Willi Schmidt, which keeps us down to earth and close to customers, and has given the Schmidt brand a legendary reputation for quality, safety and service far beyond Germany's borders.
